The Goal

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us!” (Hebrews 12:1)

Before my singing days, I enjoyed playing high school sports. I loved playing football and baseball.

I worked so hard as a kid to try and get in shape for the upcoming season. My dad would measure a mile distance in our neighborhood and get me set up with a plan, to run and get ready for the season. He had a stopwatch and he would time every mile that I ran, challenging me to get better every day!

He would always encourage me to keep working hard and to finish the race. At times he would have to remind me of “the goal”. There were obvious times of utter exhaustion and moments when I almost quit. He would have to remind me to stay focused and to keep my eyes straight ahead, on the upcoming season.

I find that those lessons I learned as a young man still apply today, especially in my journey as a believer.

It takes discipline to keep my eyes on “the goal”(Christ). I have to be reminded that even when things go wrong and I get distracted or exhausted, that I must push through and keep my eyes on him.

God has a race measured and marked out for us. It’s his specific plan. We may not always see the finish line, we may not even think at times that we will finish. But God marked it off and measured it for us and he knows that we can make it to the end, if we keep our eyes focused on Christ!!

May you never lose sight of “the goal”.

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfected of faith.”
(Hebrews 12:2)

If it weren’t for you guys and your songs setting the measurement of holiness so high, my life and that of my family would never be closer to God. Thanks!

    Hello Mark!

I think this was a wonderful understanding and interpretation of the verse. It makes me want to memorize it now so I can remember this simple, but IMPORTANT truth :) .

Also, this is a more off topic question, but I REALLY enjoy the 4Him band, and I know you guys might be done with your touring days, but I wanted to ask and make sure, because if you guys were ever going to be in the Georgia area, I’d love to attend a concert! I’m sure my four sisters would love it too :) . We might not be too old (ages 24, 22, 21, & 15), and we all typically do not like or agree upon the same music, BUT we all LOVE yall’s music! So please, if yall will be anywhere in the area or ever tour again, please let me know. It means a lot to me.

Thank you for your continued love for Christ and perseverance in the faith.

James 1:2- “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. that man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”

And, even though the doubting part worries me, because I believe I struggle with doubt TOO often and TOO severe, I still pray God will give me wisdom to the undeserving.

But again, please let me know if yall tour at all of if any of you will be in Georgia :) . We’d love to hear and worship with you guys.
